 Plastic is considered one of the numerous inventions when it comes to convenience, and is difficult to decompose, especially at an affordable price, plastic can serve many purposes. However, nowadays when talking about plastic, we naturally think of its numerous drawbacks, which have a significant impact on the environment and the habitats of various species.

Every day, the equivalent of 2,000 garbage trucks full of plastic are dumped into the world's oceans, rivers, and lakes. Every year 19-23 million tonnes of plastic waste leaks into aquatic ecosystems, polluting lakes, rivers, and seas.

The world has a plastic pollution crisis. Since 1950, humans have produced more than 8 billion tons of plastic, more than half of which went straight to landfills and only about 9% of which was recycled



Plastic pollution in the ocean

According to the U.N. Environment Programme, some 9 million tons of plastic end up in the ocean each year. According to a 2017 study from the environmental group Ocean Conservancy, more than half of that waste comes from just five countries in East and Southeast Asia — China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam
